What is the Book of Concord?
The Book of Concord, also known as the Lutheran Confessions, is a collection of writings (symbols) compiled by Christians in 1580, that set forth the beliefs and confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
It includes the three universal or ecumenical Creeds of the church, namely, the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed.
It also contains various writings from the Reformation Era, such as, the Augsburg Confession and its Apology (defense), the Smalcald Articles, the Treatise on the Power and Primacy of the Pope, Luther’s Small and Large Catechisms, and the Formula of Concord.
